grass

Now that summer’s here, it’s time for you to start inviting friends over for backyard barbecues and other fun gatherings.  Before you pick up the phone, you might want to pay some attention to your lawn; after all, it could be pretty embarrassing when your guests arrive and see your yard in a sorry state.  Here are a few tips from the experts at EMC Lawncare in Hatfield, PA to help you get your lawn in shape so it will look great and stand up to the heavy traffic it will receive during your summer parties.

Do a Thorough Cleanup

Winter weather has likely left your yard strewn with debris and spring overgrowth means weeds will have it looking rather shabby.  Before you invite your friends and family over, you’ll want to give your lawn a good once-over.  Start by raking up any debris on the grass to prevent it from creating dead spots; your activities will also remove dead grass so that your new, healthy grass can thrive.  Next, you’ll want to tackle those flower beds, pulling all the weeds and removing any sticks or overgrowth.  These materials can be disposed of in yard waste bags, or you can compost them to create nutrient-rich soil for your flower beds.

Take Care of Your Grass

Once you’ve taken care of the cleanup, it’s time to assess the state of your grass.  Look for any dead spots and fill them in with some grass seed; you’ll start to see them filling in within a few weeks.  Next you’ll want to think about starting a program of fertilization and weed control.  With all the summer parties you have planned, your lawn is bound to see plenty of traffic, so getting rid of weeds will allow your grass to grow in thick and strong.  With the weeds out of the way, the fertilizer can really do its job, giving grass the nutrients it needs to get established.

Mulch Your Flower Beds

Now that your grass is in good shape, it’s time to pay some attention to your flower beds.  They’re probably pretty bare after your initial cleanup, so laying down a barrier with some mulch on top will prevent weeds from coming back.  With your beds properly prepped, you can even take some time to put in flowers, vegetables, or maybe even some lawn gnomes if that’s your thing.  Don’t leave those beds empty; use that space to beautify your yard or grow some healthy food for your family and friends!

If you’ve got lots of summer parties planned, you better make sure your lawn is ready for primetime.  It may sound like a lot of work but the effort you put in will pay off big time when your guests shower you with compliments about your gorgeous grass.  Of course, if you need some help, EMC Lawncare would be happy to take some of those jobs off your hands.  Give us a call at (267) 718-5952 or fill out our online form for a free estimate on services like grass seeding, fertilization, weed control, dethatching, and mulching (plus many more).  We’ll help you make sure your lawn looks its best for all your summer parties!
