5 Signs That You Are Overwatering Your Grass

Watering your grass is one of the key things that you can do in order to keep it in good shape. However, there is such a thing as watering too much. There are several signs that indicate that you are over-watering your grass.

Fungus Growth

Fungus thrives in wet environments. You should look for an orange or red color on your grass. Many people use fungicide to get rid of the fungus. However, you may not need that if you avoid over-watering your grass.

Weed Growth

Weeds tend to grow faster in wet conditions. In fact, weeds can grow faster than the grass itself. Crabgrass is the most common type of weed that you may see. Crabgrass looks like a small corn plant. It starts off as light green in color, but it will eventually darken.

Nutsedge is another weed that you may notice in your grass. It is yellow or purple in color. Nutsedge can spread quickly if you do not get rid of it. It is a good idea to get rid of the weeds before you apply topsoil.

Standing Water

Water should quickly absorb into the soil. If you have too much water sitting on the soil, then you are probably over-watering your grass. Standing water is a problem because it can attract insects. Even if you use topsoil services in Bucks County, you may still have a lot of insects if you use too much water.

Keep in mind that even though you may not see a lot of water in the grass, that does not mean that you are not over-watering your grass. If you notice that the grass feels squishy when you walk through it, then it is probably receiving too much water. Additionally, there may be a lot of runoff when you water your lawn.

Yellowing or Discoloration

Grass that has been overwatered has a tendency to change colors. The grass frequently turns a yellow color. The reason that the grass may turn colors is because it is being stripped of its nutrients. Your grass will eventually die if it is not getting the nutrients that it needs.

Insect Development

It is normal for you to see insects roaming in the grass. However, if you see a lot more than usual, then this could be caused by over-watering the grass. Insects can do a lot of damage to your grass. If your lawn is infested with insects, then your grass may turn brown.
